The World famous Pilgrim Town of Central Travancore, Pandalam, is a blessed place where Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of Sabarimala had had His human sojourn as the son of the Raja of Pandalam. It is situated near the Western Ghats and is a treat to eyes with its scenic beauty, fairs and festivals. River Acahankovil flows through her lap. Pandalam is a true tropical diversity adorned with fertile agricultural land and plantations. Paddy, sugar cane, tapioca, varieties of vegetables and spices like cardamom, pepper etc. are extensively cultivated. It abounds in extensive rubber plantations.
The Pandalam kingdom was established around 79 ME (903 AD) by the Pandalam royal family.The territories under the Pandalam administration extended to over 1,000 square miles mainly eastward and covered the mountain ranges, consisting of 18 holy hills including Sabarimala.
