For enjoying holidays Kerala offers much for people with different tastes and preferences. This is one reason for the significant increase in tourist arrivals in the state. The biggest step forward in world tourism was the invention of the jet liner. This aircraft did for international tourism what the railways did for domestic tourism. Tourist traffic reached phenomenal proportions which far surpassed any known previous record. The saga of growth in the tourism industry until this day is only a small chapter of the world tourism developments, and no doubt, the future of tourism remains assured as a preferred human activity. Travel and tourism is now a major income generator for the state of Kerala. With better promotions more people will certainly visit this picturesque state.
Chartered flights have now directly linked Trivandrum, the state capital with scores of destinations in Europe and North America. It is a great help to the global tourist who would have had to change aircrafts and baggage at different airports to reach Kerala. While the tourist season begins during the early part of the month of October, almost all the prominent resorts and hotels are spruced up to welcome visitors from other parts of the world. Due to increasing demand, the hotel charges used to go up phenomenally making it difficult for the domestic tourist to enjoy a stay in the prominent resorts. Even then, the prominent businessmen do not mind shelling out the extra amount.
